Digital Content Storage
The volume of digital content is exploding. Medical imagery (digital CT scans, MRIs, PET scans, etc.), digital entertainment (photo and video handling, gaming, video-streaming, etc.;), and surveillance/intelligence (satellite images, surveillance video, etc.) are just a few examples of the exploding volumes of digital content that organizations must store and deliver to customers and users. The need for storage capacity for content is growing at greater than 50% per year. The Exponential Storage product is intended for organizations with tens, hundreds, and even thousands of terabytes (TB) of such content.
Content storage customers have specific needs. Digital content is different than “classic” transaction data, e.g., it’s get a multi-gigabyte video file simultaneously to many users; not get a few-byte credit card authorization to one user at a time. Storing a large amount of content means storing and retrieving many large files. As a result, content storage requires:
- big capacity – for holding massive numbers of very large files,
- fast throughput – for speedy storage/retrieval of very large files,
- easy expandability – for storing additional content,
- strong protection – for reliability, security, etc., of critical content, and
- low cost – to make content storage affordable.
